You Are Never Completely Safe

Thursday, March 10th, 2016

Never completely safe? We are not trying to scare you with this; it is just the truth when it comes to injuries in New York City. Even if you do everything you can to insulate yourself from the possibility of injury, the negligence of others can leave you injured and in need of resources to recover.

This was demonstrated Thursday morning by an accident involving a taxi and a pedestrian on Manhattan’s east side.

According to CBSNewYork the taxi jumped the curb before smashing into a building. Two pedestrians and the taxi driver were hurt.

It is still too early to say for sure what led the taxi onto the sidewalk, but it is not hard to imagine scenarios that could result in such an accident:

  • Distracted driving
  • Drunk driving
  • Swerving to miss another negligent motorist
  • Evading a jaywalker

What do all of these things have in common? Human negligence. All it takes is one careless person to cause an accident that leaves innocent people injured or killed.

When you are driving, please put down your electronic devices and focus on the task at hand. When you are walking, please watch where you are going. Even on the sidewalk, you need to be vigilant about your surroundings.
