When A Casual Stroll Through The Park Is Ruined By A Bad Driver

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016

Central Park is a gem of a place, but it is not immune from the dangers posed by negligent motorists.

According to the Daily News:

“A pedestrian in Central Park was injured by a falling light pole that was knocked loose after a yellow cab jumped a curb on the Upper East Side and slammed into it Sunday, police said.

The cabbie, 60, told police he mounted the curb after swerving to avoid another taxi that had just cut him off on Fifth Ave. near E. 84th St. shortly before 10 a.m., police said.

That’s when the cab smashed into the pole, which then fell and injured a 41-year-old woman in the park.”

Sadly, the cab’s passenger and a child were also injured as a result of the collision.

All three injury victims are expected to survive, but that makes the lesson of this event no less important to learn. Whether you are on foot, at work, or on the road, you can never prevent all accidents from happening. All it takes is one negligent driver to set off a chain reaction that leaves innocent people hurt and in need of treatment.

If this ever happens to you, make sure you understand your rights, including your right to compensation for medical bills, lost earnings and other damages. A personal injury lawyer from Block O’Toole & Murphy will be ready to help.
