We have written extensively on this blog about the current construction boom in New York City and the risk that cutting corners and negligence play in risking the health and safety of New Yorkers and the people around the world who visit our great city.
Sadly, some of our worst fears came true this morning when a construction crane collapsed in lower Manhattan, killing one person and leaving two others in serious condition. The collapse took place at 40 Worth St. & W Broadway, just minutes from our firm’s office.
The images of the collapse are sobering, as several vehicles were struck by the fallen crane, and many more were narrowly missed. Early reports indicated that one motorist may have been trapped in a car as a result of the accident.
Lower Manhattan alone has a population of over 50,000 and that does not take into account those who commute to this part of our city to work, shop or dine. This is why we all have an interest in holding negligent parties accountable when accidents happen. In the future it could be you, me, or a loved one harmed when a crane falls out of our skyline.
At Block O’Toole & Murphy, we hope you will join us in taking a moment to count your blessings. However, we also hope you take a moment to familiarize yourself with your rights and make sure you know what to do in the event you or a loved one is harmed as a result of negligence.
Our firm prides itself on fighting for the rights of construction workers, pedestrians, motorists and others who are hurt in NYC. Visit www.BlockOToole.com to learn more about our firm, including our nearly $1 billion in verdicts and settlements.
