Negligence Can Be Just As Deadly As Severe Weather

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

A 66 year old man died on Sunday afternoon in the Long Island community of Oyster Bay Cove after being struck with a snowplow.

Was he acting recklessly, perhaps stepping in front of the snowplow while not paying attention? No.

In fact, the man was standing near his home in the aftermath of a blizzard that dumped more than two feet of snow on Long Island and the entire Tri-State area.

While police say that no criminality is suspected in the incident, it is important to remember that severe weather can bring the potential for accidents, injuries, and deaths that are not caused by Mother Nature.

Be Vigilant

Vehicles such as snowplows can cause risks to motorists and pedestrians, and the risk of traffic accidents rises during and after a snowstorm due to the presence of slick roadways and drivers who fail to adjust to the conditions.

People are not completely safe on foot either, as ice on sidewalks can lead to slip-and-fall accidents.

Simply put, bad weather magnifies existing issues and increases the chances that you will fall victim to an injury. Be vigilant and stay safe out there.

If you or someone you know is hurt, find an experienced New York personal injury lawyer who can inform you of your rights and ensure you are treated fairly by the insurance companies.
