Drunk Drivers Cause Serious Injury And Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

Thursday, September 3rd, 2015

Injuring or killing another person while driving drunk doesn’t happen very often in New York City. When it does, however, the carnage is usually significant. Drunk drivers usually drive much too fast for conditions, don’t see pedestrians and other vehicles, and often lose control of their vehicles. The result is almost always serious injury and death.

The driver rear-ended a stopped vehicle on the Brooklyn-bound span of the bridge. When he tried to go around the stopped car, he was hit by another car. The Lexus overturned and a passenger in the car was seriously injured, as were six others, although less seriously.

A crash in New Jersey in early August injured three police officers and four others. An allegedly drunk driver crashed into a car in Jersey City, sending that car into a parked car, which in turn went onto the sidewalk where the officers and others were standing. The driver tried to flee the scene, but was detained.

Two people in the parked car were also injured. They, along with the two civilians hit on the sidewalk, were taken to Jersey City Medical Center. The three police officers were also taken to the hospital; two have been released and the third remained hospitalized in stable condition. The driver and a passenger in the car that caused the accident refused treatment after being taken to a hospital.

The driver who caused the crash was charged with four counts of assault by auto, knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and driving while intoxicated.

A horrible collision killed four young women on Long Island in July. The women and four others were riding in a limo. The limo driver, who may have tried to make an illegal U-turn, was hospitalized with the four women who survived the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle, who T-boned the limo, was also injured, although he was able to leave the scene on foot and had to be chased by police. He was arrested in his hospital room and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Police said that they were looking into the possibility of additional charges.

If you were injured or lost a loved one in a crash caused by a drunk driver, you may be able to obtain compensation. While no amount of money can take away the trauma, obtaining a verdict or settlement against the at-fault party can allow victims to move forward with their losses. A knowledgeable New York City personal injury attorney may be able to help.
