Yesterday, a box truck driver lost control of his truck and crashed the front end of it through the window of a quiet, neighborhood bagel shop. The truck smashed through the plate-glass front of ‘Bagels For You’, a store on the corner of Queens Boulevard near 76th Road. The sudden crash resulted in five unsuspecting people, including a baby, being hospitalized. The crash left the store a wreck with debris everywhere. A store worker helped pull the baby out from the wreckage. Emergency personnel rushed the injured victims to local hospitals. Thankfully, all are expected to survive.
How did this happen? The truck’s driver, apparently from a Long Island company called Casanova Mechanical, struck a parked car and lost control of the truck. The truck then careened into the bagel shop, shattering the glass front window and startling many in the area. The truck occupied half of the store when it came to rest. Witnesses described the thundering crash sounding like a “loud explosion, the loudest noise in my life.”
