Brooklyn Construction Accident Seriously Injures Eight Workers

Friday, February 28th, 2014

The New York City lawyers at Block O’Toole & Murphy are following a very serious construction accident that took place in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn today.

1916 Prospect Place in Brooklyn was a 3 story building that was under demolition. The vacant building reportedly collapsed at 1pm this afternoon, seriously injuring eight people. The helpless victims of the building collapse were rushed to Brookdale Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.

Demolition work can be serious if safety precautions are not followed. Often, this type of construction activity can lead to a floor or building collapse. Building collapses can occur during demolition when the foundation is weak, proper support is not employed, during drilling or when too much weight is being used during the job. It can also occur when architects and developers fail to safely assess the strength of the structure. Obviously when a building collapses, many are at risk, including workers, nearby pedestrians and occupants of adjacent buildings.

We will continue to keep you posted as this investigation unfolds. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims.
